Report on Impact of Fuel Crisis on Migrant Workers of Gas Stations [here]
An article by Arab News reported the effects of the fuel shortage on migrant employees working at gas stations in Lebanon which included threats, physical assault and verbal abuse by customers. In addition, their salaries are severely impacted due to the ongoing crisis amid a growing demand to be evacuated to their countries.
Awareness Campaign on Kafala and Migrant Women’s Experiences [here] and [here]
An awareness campaign was launched by the Slow Factory and photojournalist Aline Deschamps about the Kafala system and the different ways it enables abuse and exploitation of migrant domestic workers.
Ethiopian Consulate Launches Vaccination Drive [here]
The Ethiopian consulate in Lebanon started vaccinating Ethiopian nationals on June 23 in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Lebanese government.
Beirut among Most Expensive Cities for Migrant and Foreign Workers [here]
Beirut came in third place in a study mapping the increase in living costs, among the most expensive cities for migrant and foreign workers, mainly due to the impact of the pandemic and the port blast on the economy.
Campaign for Syrian Refugees in Lebanon [here]
A new campaign was launched by Access Center for Human Rights to shed light on the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the violations of their rights, through providing recommendations to improve the Lebanese government’s treatment of refugees.
